Running from October 2008 to October 2009 The Environment Preparatory Assistance project was launched in October 2008 for Somaliland, in partnership with the Ministry of Pastoral Development and Environment. The UNDP-funded project supports building the capacity of the ministry through basic equipment, training for key technical personnel in environmental management, enhanced field (land degradation) monitoring, and the rehabilitation of government tree nurseries. It also aims at enhancing public awareness and advocacy on environmental issues through the media. It is envisaged that this preparatory assistance will be scaled up to incorporate community-based livelihood and conservation activities in other parts of Somalia. Expenditure for the project in 2008: 150,550US$. |
