UNDP is saddened to confirm the loss of our staff member Faiza Sheikh Mohamud in the 14th October attack in MogadishuOct 19, 2017
The United Nations Development Programme extends it profound sympathy and solidarity to all those affected as we mourn the terrible loss of life and devastation caused by the attacks in on Saturday 14 October 2017 in Mogadishu which saw more than 400 people killed and over 300 wounded.
We at UNDP Somalia also lost a colleague and friend, Ms. Faiza Sheikh Mohamud, during the tragic attack. Faiza was working with UNDP as the Special Assistant to our Country Director and was in the location when the blast happened. Faiza has been a pillar of the UNDP Somalia Country Office for over six years. As Special Assistant to the Country Director, and in all her previous positions, Faiza served the United Nations and the people of Somalia with the utmost professionalism and compassion. We are deeply saddened by her loss and extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues at this time.
Faiza left behind eight children in school, four of her own, her three younger brothers and sisters and two nephews. Faiza was the sole breadwinner for all these children and her mother. Like many of us and many in Somalia, she wanted all the children to grow up with a better life, to be safe and to have a full education.
To honour her wishes, we have started a fundraising page to ensure all the children she looked after complete their schooling and that all their needs as they grow up are met.
